A MAN has been arrested in Albania over the murder of a builder, 47, who was found with head injuries at London's Hatton Garden.

A murder probe was launched in April last year after police were called to reports of an injured man on the roof of the Pressman Mastermelts building.

The victim, 47-year-old builder John Woodward who was carrying out work at the site, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said a 22-year-old Albanian national had been arrested by authorities in the city of Durres on Thursday on suspicion of murder, following an international extradition request.

The man remains in custody pending further work as part of the extradition process and Mr Woodward's family have been informed of the developments, the force added.

Scotland Yard said that while initial reports indicated that Mr Woodward may have fallen from a height, a post-mortem examination gave the cause of death as blunt force trauma to the head.

A 24-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder on April 18 last year and questioned, but he was subsequently de-arrested over the murder offence and then re-arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

The case against him has since been dropped, the Met revealed.
